The rebate — for everyone else
If you don’t income-qualify for the free program, the Home Renovation Savings rebate is your route. Every rebate is 50% of what you spend, up to a cap — not a flat cheque.
Route 1 — attic only (no energy assessment)

You don’t need natural gas to qualify
Important for Orillia and the surrounding lake-country townships (Severn, Oro-Medonte, Ramara), where many homes — especially rural and lakeside ones — run on propane, oil, or wood. The rebate’s heating requirement has two ways to qualify:
- Natural gas (Enbridge Gas serves the City of Orillia), or
- Electricity, oil, propane, or wood, as long as your home is connected to Ontario’s electricity grid.
So a rural or lakeside home on propane with hydro service qualifies. No gas line needed — and since propane and oil cost more to heat with, the savings from insulating are even bigger.
How the bundled path works
- Pre-retrofit energy assessment — before any work. Fee applies; ask what it is. ⚠️ Start work before this and it’s disqualified.
- Renovation Upgrade Report — rebates come only from recommended measures.
- Complete at least two recommended upgrades (100% coverage where required). ⚠️ Do one and you get nothing.
- Follow-up assessment, same advisor.
- Rebates issued — Enbridge bill credit, or cheque for non-gas homes.

- Canada Greener Homes Grant — closed to new applicants
- Canada Greener Homes Loan — closed to new applications as of October 1, 2025, per NRCan. Already-approved homeowners continue.
Any site still advertising “$10,000 from the Canada Greener Homes Loan” is out of date. NRCan’s newer Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program is income-targeted and delivered through provincial partners — worth checking if you’re a lower-income household — confirm Ontario availability at natural-resources.canada.ca.
